

Dennis “Denny” Thompson of Nashville, IN passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday April 22, 2026. Denny was born in Tallapoosa, Georgia on March 23, 1947, the son of Ketura and Charlie Thompson. He graduated from Calumet High School in 1965.
After his graduation, he enlisted in the US Army eventually becoming a Drill Sargent and sharpshooter. Denny was a dedicated Army Veteran earning the respect of multiple platoons leading them through leadership and integrity. When returning from the Army he was employed at Inland Steel Mill for many years.
After his retirement he then relocated from Northwest Indiana to Nashville, Indiana where he enjoyed his later years in life. He is survived by his life partner Donita Slemin, her children (Melissa and Michael) and grandchildren (Eric, Nathan and Lilly), his brother Chuck Thompson, multiple cousins, nieces and nephews, his daughter Denise McMaken and her children (Samuel and Nathan).
If you were lucky enough to know Denny, you most likely have a story about him.
He had a gift for turning ordinary moments into unforgettable ones.
He loved playing softball, reading, spending time in nature, his family, his country and telling stories of days past.
He was larger than life and lived life to its fullest. He had a talent for making friends everywhere he went.
His legacy of service and life will live on in all who knew him.
There will be a celebration of life held at a later date.
