Douglas Alan Spooner, (65) a loving devoted father & grandfather, and hardworking individual, passed away on April 04, 2024, in Nashville, IN. He was born on February 19, 1959, in Ogdensburg, NY, to his parents William and Constance Spooner. Doug was the epitome of hard work and dedication, embodying these values both in his career and in his role as a father to his three children. He worked as a Machinist at General Motors for over 30 years, showcasing a work ethic that was unmatched. His commitment to providing for his family knew no bounds, often putting in extra hours and weekends to ensure their comfort and security. In addition to his career, Doug was actively involved in his children's lives. Whether he was coaching Little League or building dollhouses, he always emphasized the importance of hard work. His children, Sarah, Billy, and the late Zachary, were his pride and joy, and he loved them deeply. Doug also had one grandchild, Ryan whom he adored. Doug married at the age of 27 in Upstate NY to the love of his life, Mary Ellen Spooner. They shared 28 years together & 3 children. His marriage was a great source of strength and support throughout his life. His memory will forever be cherished by his family and all those who knew him. Doug was well known for his love of golf & hunting. He was a member of the UAW - Local 440 and found great purpose in being part of a larger community. After retirement, he opened his own business, GrassMasters and also worked as a handyman for Salt Creek Golf Retreat. He loved the outdoors and working with his hands. There was nothing he couldn’t fix himself. His final years were spent out in the woods at his cabin in Nashville, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents William & Constance Spooner, brother Richard Spooner, sister Donna Spooner, and son Zachary Douglas Spooner. Doug is survived by his daughter Sarah Mae Latham, son William (Bill) James Spooner, and grandson Ryan Thomas Latham. A private service to honor and celebrate Doug's life was held at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on Indiana 135 in Nashville, IN, on April 15, 2024, at 2:00 PM. His legacy of hard work, dedication, and love will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
