

James “Jim” Russell Brown, age 94, of Nashville, Indiana passed away, Tuesday, September 16,2025 at his residence. Born on December 25,1930 in Huntington, Indiana, Jim was the son of Lawrence Brown and Helen (Gelzleichter) Brown. He graduated from Huntington High School and the Indiana University School of Business in Bloomington. He served four years in the United States Air Force. After a career as a Sales Representative of several packaging companies, Jim moved with his wife, artist Peggy Brown, to Brown County and concentrated on a career as a fine art photographer. He was known nationally and won many awards for his Black and White photos on watercolor paper. He sensitized his own paper and printed his own photos in his darkroom studio at his home on Clay Lick Road.
He was an avid Indiana University sports fan and enjoyed attending and following football and both men’s and women’s basketball. He also enjoyed collecting art and traveling to Maine, Florida and Europe for vacationing and to photograph the local scenery.
Jim is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Mattes Brown, of Nashville and three sons: Kurt William Brown and his wife, Laura (Koepsel) of McLean, VA and their children Lindsay (Kyle) Matika and great grandchildren Madison and Tyler from Rolesville, NC, Brooke (Justin) Rizzi and great grandchild Hunter of Charlotte, NC, and Nick, of Seattle, WA; James Lawrence Brown and his wife, Linda (Ettington) of Salida, CO and their sons, Matthew (Shannon Couette) of Ft Collins, CO and Eric, of Denver, CO; and Nicholas Wade Brown and his wife, Heidi (Fenner) and their daughters Elya, and Erin, of San Marcos, California.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Susanne Koschnick.
Jim was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church where a Memorial Celebration of Mass will be held on Monday October 13th, 2025 at 10:00am at St Agnes Catholic Church 1008 Mclary Rd, Nashville, IN 47448
Memorial contributions in Jim’s memory can be given to St. Agnes Church or to St. Vincent DePaul.
