Born September 24, 1938 in Elkhart, Indiana, Janet was the only daughter of Joseph E. & Eudora Miller.
After graduating from Muncie/Burris School in Muncie, Indiana, she attended Ball State Teachers College and Indiana University. She then attended Kendall School of Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan, graduating in Interior Design.
She worked for Stow Davis Furniture Company in Grand Rapids, then later worked for Carl Bradley Architects and Lewis & Christian Office Supply in Wagner as their Interior Designer.
She married Robert (Bob) Goehringer on February 12, 1977, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She and Bob opened the first Bed & Breakfast in Fort Wayne, IN, The Candlewick Inn. Their love of travel led them to Red Lodge, Montana, where they eventually moved and opened a beautiful log Bed & Breakfast, The Inn on the Beartooth, which she designed. While she loved meeting travelers who stayed at the Inn, her heart was in design. She later opened a Kitchen, Bath, and Interior Design store in downtown Red Lodge, called Home on the Range. Once again, her love of travel led them to tour Alaska in the early 2000s. She fell in love with Homer, Alaska, and upon returning from their visit, decided to retire there and build another beautiful home she designed. They called Homer, Alaska, home for 11 years.
She volunteered at the local hospital in Homer and managed its gift shop. Her love for design gave her opportunities to undertake many wonderful projects over the years.
In 2018, she and Bob moved from Homer, Alaska back to Indiana. Having visited Brown County and Nashville, IN, several times over the years, they knew this was where they were going to make their final move to. They built another beautiful home in Nashville and made many, many friends. She loved volunteering at the Brown County Historical Society and managing their gift shop.
She loved to help those around her and was fiercely independent as many people would tell you about her. She will be missed by all that knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Goehringer, and her parents. Survivors include daughter Jill (Mark) Potter, their children; Ashley, Alyssa and Nathan and her adopted “Montana Kids” Carl & Denise Loyning.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 15th at 11:00am at the Cottonwood Church, 2523 W. Cottonwood Road, Morgantown, IN.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Janet’s name to the Brown County Playhouse in Nashville, IN.
