

Richard Ward “Dick” Eddy, 94, Columbus, died Tuesday June 11 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Dick was born September 21, 1918 in Lawrence, Kansas. He was the son of Dick Leander Eddy & Gertrude (Russ) Eddy, they preceded him in death. Dick was raised in Apopka, FL, & moved to Chicago to begin his 40 year career with the YMCA. While there he met Virginia Varner & they married in May 1942, just prior to Dick being shipped out to serve in the US Navy. After WWII, he resumed his career with the YMCA serving in Flint & Detroit, MI & Racine, WI. Dick was a graduate of George Williams College in Chicago. During his retirement he was a resident of Crystal Falls, MI, Brown County, IN, & most recently Columbus, IN. Dick was a member of Christiansburg United Methodist Church & the American Legion.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday June 15 at 11:00 A.M. at Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, Nashville with Rev. Richard A. Eddy officiating. Burial will follow at Christiansburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday at 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. A reception will follow the burial at Christiansburg United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Greer, Columbus, son, Richard (Karen) Eddy, Elk Grove, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 57 years, Virginia Eddy, on October 18, 1999, 2 brothers & 1 sister.
