

Alexander Eugene (Alex) Howe, passed away peacefully, unexpectedly May 17, 2011, at home with his mother and grandmother. He was one week shy of his 27th birthday. Born May 25, 1984, Alex is the son of Dara Greenwood (Vaughn) Howe and the grandson of Olive Bilby Greenwood. He was preceded in death by his father David V. Howe, and grandparents Robert A. Greenwood, R. Eugene Howe and Martha Ann Hare Howe. Other surviving family include a brother Aron M. Vaughn (Hapny) and niece Sofie Vaughn of Medan, Sumatra, Indonesia; an uncle Randy R. Greenwood and aunt Linda of Littleton, CO; aunts Merry Howe of Little Rock, AR; and Carol M. Garner (Gary) of Tampa, FL; a cousin Stefanie G. Kritzler of Norwalk, Iowa; and a large extended family. Alex was loved by many in his circle of support and caregivers who were also his family. Most beloved was Elaine Washington, his caregiver and personal assistant for fifteen years. As a young child, Alex attended the early intervention program at the Susan Gray School at Vanderbilt. He attended public school in Williamson County and received a special education diploma at Franklin High School in 2006. Neither scholar nor athlete, Alex excelled at being a righteous Child of God and a perfect soul with the power to inspire and transform many who were privileged to know him, most especially his mother.
Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements. A visitation will take place at Woodlawn Friday, May 20, beginning at one o’clock with a memorial service following at three o’clock.
