Alfred McFadden Smith Sr.

SMITH, Alfred McFadden, Sr. died April 13, 2013 at the age of 89. A native of Memphis, TN, he was the son of Steve W. and Zunie Smith. He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Draughon Smith, his son William Naron Smith and brother Steven W. Smith, Jr. Mr. Smith served as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II and graduated in 1949 from Vanderbilt School of Engineering where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. For 30 years he was employed at Oak Ridge National Laboratories. Upon his retirement he returned to Nashville to work for the Tennessee Department of the Military from which he retired 15 years later. He is survived by his sons Alfred M. Smith, Jr. (Shaaron) of Goodlettsville, Robert D. Smith (Lori) of Springfield, TN and his daughter Vivian Smith Brown (Brian) of Nashville and grandchildren Kevin and Laura Lynn Smith, Katie and Hannah Smith and Patrick, Spencer and Grace Brown. Visitation will be Monday April 15th from 5-7 pm at Vine Street Christian Church. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 16th at 10 am at Vine Street Christian Church, with interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to Vine Street Christian Church, 4101 Harding Pike, Nashville, TN 37205 or charity of one’s choice.
