Amelia Hancock Minor died March 27, 2020, at the age of 98 years in Nashville, Tennessee, where she lived most of her life. She was born on October 17, 1921, in Nashville to Grayson Love Hancock (later Joslin) and Enoch Cliff Hancock. She attended Peabody Demonstration School and later graduated from George Peabody College for Teachers with both Bachelors and Masters Degrees. Amelia joined the Waves during World War 2, was stationed in Florida and then reassigned to Nashville after the death of her brother, Lt Enoch Cliff Hancock, Jr. She attained the rank of Yeoman 3rd Class of which she was very proud. Amelia loved reading history, classical music and opera and, in her earlier years, she enjoyed playing bridge and gardening. She passed on her love of nature, reading and music to her children, for which they will be eternally grateful. After a series of careers as a housewife, church secretary and teacher, Amelia joined the Vanderbilt University Hospital from which she retired. Amelia was a member of Belle Meade Methodist Church, the DAR (Campbell Chapter) and The Book Club.
Amelia was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Harlin Tucker Parmer; her second husband, Lt. Col. (retired) Richard B. Minor, Sr.; brother Lt Enoch Cliff Hancock, Jr.; sister Grayson (Gay) Love Hancock Smith (Coke) and her son Harlin Tucker Parmer, Jr. (Carole). She is survived by her sons, Cliff Hancock Parmer (Carol) of St. Charles, Missouri and Henry E. Parmer (Joan) of Nashville; son Harlin’s widow, Carole, Franklin, Tennessee; stepson Richard B Minor, Jr. (Jan) of Morganton, Georgia, and loving friends Virginia and Ken Miller, Warne, North Carolina. She leaves behind grandsons Mark Crawford (Courtney), Franklin, Tennessee, and great grandchildren Mark and Scarlet Crawford; grandson Jacob Crawford, Primm Springs, Tennessee, and great grandchildren Cloe, Ruby and Wyatt Crawford; nieces Amelia Smith, Columbia, South Carolina, and Ann McMillan (Bob), Liliburn, Georgia and nephew Coke Smith, Lawrenceville, Georgia, as well as many dear friends and more distant relatives. Amelia served as the family historian in her later years and enjoyed sharing stories about her many relatives.
Visitation will be held at a future date followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery in the Hancock family plot where she will join her mother, father, brother, cousins and other relatives.
