Bette Jane Gillogly

An incredible person with a beautiful soul and a light who makes the world a better place every single day by giving all of themselves to others. Bette brightened the day of whoever she encountered and was an immense blessing to everyone she knew.

Bette met Harold in 1964 and they married on June 11, 1966 – 57½ years ago. Their life together was an amazing love story, and they were an example to all who knew them of what God intended a marriage to be – two people who become as one.

She was also the beloved mother of three children, Grandma of 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Bette Jane Gillogly, 79, peacefully went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, in the early morning of January 27, 2024. Bette’s heartbeat was her relationship with Jesus, who she met when she was only 10 years old and lived for Him ever after. Whatever advice she gave was filtered through how Jesus wants his followers to live. This was evidenced by the many friends and family who came to Vanderbilt Hospital or called, wrote, or video chatted, when it was clear her time on earth was ending. She was overjoyed by the great outpouring of love and at one point exclaimed, “I got my flowers on this side of the grave!”

She was even able to give a final charge: “Forgive. Don’t hold hate, pain, and grudges against others. It only serves to destroy you. Learn to forgive, and love those who have hurt you, whether intentionally or not.” As her family, we encourage everyone to heed that challenge. This is so hard for us. But for her, we celebrate that death has been defeated, and she is with our Savior.

A celebration of Bette’s life will be held at a memorial service on Saturday, February 24th, at 2pm at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship. 210 Battle Rd., Antioch, TN.
