

Bill was born in Greenup, Illinois to the late Leland M. and Frances H. Strong on May 6, 1926.
He is survived and greatly missed and cherished by the lover and love of his life, attentive, companion, inseparable, always enjoying and doing everything together and “Best Friend”, his wife of 65 and ½ years, Virginia (Mimi). They loved their lives with travel and times together. Proudly leaving beloved children; Shearon S. Stephens (Buzz), Sandra Y. Strong (Glenn Carter) and Charles M. Strong; granddaughters, Lindsey McPherson (Mike), Crystal Strong, Crystan Strong Taylor (Robby), Lauren Brown (Chad), Allison Stephens, Angie Pruitt (David); eleven great-grandchildren.
A very sincere, caring, compassionate, sensitive man, husband, father, grand and great-grandfather.
Bill could “fix” (or try to fix) anything and everything. A workaholic: “Papa Bill can fix it” “Did it his way”. His family lovingly agreed. There will never be another “Bill” (Papa Bill). Knowledgeable on any and all matters and always teaching others. His wisdom will remain with us forever. Bill will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He attended Eastern Illinois State University (known also as “The Normal School”) grade school before moving to Nashville, Tennessee with his parents at the age of nine; where Bill graduated Isaac Litton and also classes at Hume-Fogg Tech. Graduating from Vanderbilt University as an Electrical Engineer with honors.
Bill proudly served in the Air Force during WWII as a tail gunner B17. Obtained a private pilot’s license, scuba diver, along with numerous other hobbies.
He retired from Industrial Risk Insurers after thirty-six years as Electrical Engineer in charge. Enjoyed his farms, hunting and traveling.
Visitation will be held at three o’ clock in the afternoon until eight on Saturday, February 7, 2015 and again on Sunday, February 8, 2015 from eleven o’ clock in the morning until one with service to follow after visitation at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.
Grieve nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk of me as if I were beside you… I loved you so… Twas’ heaven here with you…
