He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Greda Kowalski, grandson, Ronan Guyer and stepdaughter, Jill Gustafson.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Matthews Franz; children, Lori (Stephen) Guyer, Andy Franz, and Lisa Plaia; sister, Elizabeth Grant; grandchildren, Colin and Shannon Guyer, Coltrane, Clayton and Trey Plaia; stepson, Mike (Libby) Deitschmann; step-grandchildren, Laurie (Morgan) Bovi, Michelle (Jonathan) Garner, Eli Deitschmann and Charles (Nicole) Deitschmann.
Carl was a graduate of the State University of New York at Farmingdale with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Technology. Among his many accomplishments in engineering was his work on development of the Lunar Excursion Module which is the first and only craft thus far to take astronauts to the surface of the moon. In recent years, Carl volunteered, teaching STEM classes at Crossroads Christian Academy in Blackshear Georgia.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at ten o'clock in the morning on Saturday, November 5, 2022 in Lindsley Hall of Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
A Celebration Memorial Service will be held at eleven o'clock in the morning on Saturday, November 5, 2022, in Lindsley Hall of Mount Olivet Funeral Home, 1101 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN 37210.
