Charles Donald Nord

A devoted husband, father, and tireless professional working up until two days prior to his death, Chuck placed his family’s needs above all else. Starting his own independent insurance brokerage early in his career, Chuck eventually expanded his agency to a statewide business helping hundreds of thousands of Tennesseans and their families protect their livelihoods over the course of his 60+ year career. A Life and Qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table, Chuck was often asked to speak at events as an insurance expert and was eager to help younger producers learn the business.

Growing up in Wappingers Falls, New York, Chuck’s family had little means to provide for an education. An avid sportswriter for his local newspaper during high school, Chuck applied for and won the first ever Grantland Rice Scholarship for Sports Journalism at Vanderbilt University allowing him to attend college. While at Vanderbilt, Chuck was president of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, Editor-In-Chief of the Vanderbilt Hustler newspaper, and held various other leadership positions. Chuck graduated in 1960 earning the prestigious Founders Medal, an award given to the student with first honors in his/her class.

Chuck is preceded in death by his father, Charles Nord, and his mother, Ruth Wagner Nord. He is survived by his wife, Laurie Ford Nord; two sons, Drew Nord (Angela) and Richard Nord II (Loren); brother, Richard Nord of Wappingers Falls, New York; step-children, Holly King Sims and Wade King Sims, Jr. (Sarah); grandchildren Claire, Garrett, Mary Martha, Charlie, Bill, Jack, and Wade; and great grandchildren King and Annie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chuck’s church, St. George’s Episcopal Church in Nashville.

Visitation to be held Wednesday, October 5th at 2:30pm followed by services at 3:30 pm at St. George’s Episcopal Church.
