February 24, 1929 – April 23, 2021
Our father’s thoughts regarding a good obituary were to keep it short and sweet. His personal recommendation was “Charlie Wehby, born a long time ago; died the other day.”
Well, we just couldn’t leave it at that.
Charles (Charlie) Thomas Wehby, Sr. was born in Nashville, TN, lived most of his life in his beloved East Nashville, and was a lifelong member of Holy Name Catholic Church. He was a golden grad of Father Ryan High School, served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and was founder of Wehby Plumbing Company. He loved God, his family, horse racing, breakfast at Krystal’s, negotiating a real estate deal, and a good scotch.... but perhaps not always in that order.
Charlie was the son of the late Solomon and Nellie Wehby. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Edna Sanders and Imelda Todd, his brothers Andy Wehby and Alfred Wehby, and granddaughter Laura Rose Wehby.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sally, his seven children Charles Wehby, Jr. (Sheryl), Lisa Bruinsma, Patricia Cole, Joe Wehby (Kim), Chris Wehby (Ann), Andy Wehby, and Richard Wehby (Libby), 19 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, brother Vincent Wehby and sister Evelyn Kempf.
He was a good and generous man who was well-loved by his family, large extended family, friends and business associates. He will always be remembered for his strong character and devotion to those he loved. There is an empty spot in all of our hearts.
Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m, Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Holy Name Catholic Church located at 521Woodland Street. A funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11 a.m. COVID restrictions are in place. Masks are required.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Alive Hospice Nashville, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville TN 37203, Holy Name Catholic Church 521 Woodland Street, Nashville, TN 37206 or Father Ryan High School, 700 Norwood, Nashville, TN 37204.
