Clifton grew up in Franklin, Tennessee and received his education at Battle Ground Academy and Vanderbilt University. Following college, he worked in food service management at the B & W Cafeteria, Baptist Sunday School Board Cafeteria, Shoney’s, O’Charley’s, and Po Folks. He also owned a food for vending company. After his retirement from food service, he became a real estate investor and property manager. Clifton was a long-time member of Hillsboro Church of Christ. He loved traveling and was an avid bridge player.
Clifton was married to Patricia Shelton McPherson. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Anne Shelton McPherson, Clifton Eugene (Trey) McPherson III (Elizabeth Freedman, West Hartford, CT), and Elizabeth Marie (Beth) McPherson (Joel Cadman, New York City); and four grandchildren: Frances Shelton McPherson, William Freedman McPherson, Delia Anne Cadman, and Cora Claire Cadman. Other survivors include his brother Walter Alexander King MacPherson and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son-in-law John Bivins.
Clifton was a devoted husband and father and a wonderful friend to many. A private graveside service for family will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will be held when family and friends can gather safely. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to Hillsboro Church of Christ (Nashville) or Battle Ground Academy (Franklin).
