

Daniel Graves McClendon, Jr. was born on June 27, 1921 in Nashville, TN and died on May 25, 2014. He was a life long resident of Donelson.He is preceded in death by his father, Daniel G.McClendon, Sr.; mother, Jennie Stephens Campbell McClendon. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Virginia Osborne McClendon; sister, Dorothy S. Connellan; brother, W. Clarke McClendon (Helen) of Nashville; daughter, Sherrie M. Tipton (Joe) of Mt. Juliet; son, Daniel G. McClendon III (Jodi) of Flower Mound, Texas; grandchildren, Joseph B. Tipton (Loraine) of Evansville, IN, Justin D. Tipton (Lauren) of Franklin, TN, Madison E. and R. Parker McClendon of Flower Mound, Texas; great grandchildren, Hudson D. Tipton and Joseph B. Tipton. Dan graduated from Donelson High School in 1939 and attended Polytechnic Institute. He enjoyed playing sports in high school and college, especially basketball and baseball. Dan started a career at Vultee (Avco) in 1940 retiring in 1986 as a Program Manager on numerous corporate and military aircraft. During his time at Avco he served in the Army with a tour in Berlin, Germany. Dan was a longtime member of the Shade Tree Class at Andrew Price Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a proud and gentle man who loved his wife and family. He enjoyed spending time with his family and supporting them in their many endeavors. He especially enjoyed helping his grandchildren with many school projects and watching them play sports and marching in the band. He loved fishing with his cousins and was a participant in the infamous Troop 260 Short Hike of 1962. As a husband, father and grandfather he will be missed but forever loved. Our family would like to express their gratitude to his caregivers for their kindness, care and support. We would like to thank Willowbrook Hospice for their guidance and loving care. There will be a visitation with the family at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, TN.
