Dora Lancaster Mangrum, middle child of eight, devoted wife of 57 years, adored mother of three, 27-year secretary at David Lipscomb University in the Education and Audio-Visual Departments, long-time member of Central Church of Christ and Crieve Hall Church of Christ quietly passed away on Saturday morning just two months shy of her 92nd birthday surrounded by her family and friends. Now she is reunited with so many of her cherished loved ones.
Born in 1921 to to Gene and Addie Lancaster of Sumner County Tennessee she was taught well the secret to a long and fulfilled life: put God first, family second and yourself last. Whether taking a savory casserole or her famous Chess pie to a sick member, visiting a lonely widow, offering an encouraging smile to a timid student, Dora Mangrum put into practice the beliefs held in her heart. The comfort and needs of others, before her own was a given not an option. She is survived by her three children, Cathy Mangrum of Marietta, GA; Larry and (Elaine) Mangrum of Chattanooga, TN; Jo Lynn Mangrum of Nashville, TN; and her remaining sibling, Jean Lancaster Martin of Brentwood, TN. Preceding her in death: husband, Joseph Boyd Mangrum; parents Gene and Addie Lancaster; siblings Ruby Lancaster Perry; John Lancaster; Louise Lancaster; Nellie Lancaster Eggers; Elizabeth Lancaster Seiner; Frances “Honey” Lancaster. The family of Dora Mangrum wishes to acknowledge with our great gratitude, the compassion and outstanding care of her physician, Dr. Henry Trey Harrell III, the entire staff of Alive Hospice, and the wonderful staff of the Catholic Charities Adult Daycare Program. We would ask that you please make a contribution to Alive Hospice or any worthy cause of your choice in Dora's name. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 in the afternoon of Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall.
