Ellen Campion Lawson of Nashville, TN passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on September 23, 2022 at Mary Queen of Angels Assisted Living in Nashville. Ellen was born on July 11, 1929 to John E. Campion Sr. and Ellen Shea Campion in Nashville. She attended high school at St. Bernard Academy, and graduated from Vanderbilt University. Ellen received a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee, Nashville.
She was married to Albert R. Lawson, MD until his death in 2006. Ellen was social and loved by many. She was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of the Cathedral of the Incarnation and Ladies of Charity. She was involved with numerous organizations serving as the former president of both the Colonna Club and Nashville Medical Auxiliary. She supported the arts and the community through her membership with the Symphony guild. She participated in volunteer work for the community throughout her lifetime. Ellen was an active and proud member of the Centennial Club where she enjoyed being an avid bridge player until her death.
She is predeceased by her parents and two brothers: John E. Jr and Edward A. Campion. She is survived by her niece Ellen Campion Lockamy of Jacksonville, FL and nephew John E. Campion III of Raleigh, NC., devoted caregiver and cousin Jodie Beneke, and Godson Michael Shea. Ellen was a loving daughter, wife, and friend to many. She was loved by all and will be missed.
A Mass will be held at the Cathedral of the Incarnation Friday September 30th, at 10am. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 9:30am to service time at 10:00am. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Nashville following the Mass. Her cousin, Monsignor Owen F. Campion to officiate.
