
He had been a soldier in World War II, a business man who went from stock-boy to vice-president of Washington Industries over a span of 50 years; a teacher, deacon and elder at Hillsboro Church of Christ where he, and his wife Dorothy, attended from 1939 until her death last year. Family and friends knew him to be of great subtlety and humor.
He was an avid sports fan and sometimes a loud one. He was devoted to his family and much loved by them. He is survived by his daughter Colleen (Ron) Dixon; son Gene (Marilyn Waters) Shepherd; brother-in-law G. W. Head; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 Wednesday morning, October 27, 2010 at Hillsboro Church of Christ 5800 Hillsboro Pike with Dr. Marlin Connelly, A. M. Burton and Dr. Harold Hazeslip officiating.
Pallbearers: David Shepherd, Jon Shepherd, Jesse Shepherd, Davis Reese, Tom Reese, Wes Head, Brian Jones and Mark Holeman. Honorary pallbearers are elders and deacons, past and present of Hillsboro Church of Christ.
