Frank R. Kyle, 72, longtime Nashville healthcare executive, died June 26th following a brief illness. He was the son of the late Frank and Nell Kyle of Huntington, West Virginia. Frank and his wife of forty-seven years, Jennifer, moved to Nashville in 1975 and raised their sons, Garrett and Elliott, there.
Mr. Kyle spent most of his career in the radiology services sector. In 1982, he was part of a team that founded MedInc, a company that pioneered the development of freestanding outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. He served as president and chief executive officer until 1991.
In 1989, Mr. Kyle spearheaded the organization of the American Imaging Association, a trade group composed of 175 imaging centers. Kyle served as the first president of the AIA and as a director from 1989-1991.
In 1992, Mr. Kyle founded National Imaging Affiliates. NIA acquired and managed a number of centers, many of which were operated as joint ventures with hospitals and radiology practices.
In September 2000, he founded Outpatient Imaging Affiliates, LLC, to joint venture, develop and manage outpatient diagnostic imaging and PET centers in partnership with local health care providers. He retired from his position as Chairman of the Board in 2018.
A selfless leader, helping countless people get their start in the healthcare industry, Mr. Kyle was loved and admired by those who worked with him.
In addition, Mr. Kyle contributed much of his time to Harding Academy, a school beloved by his children and grandchildren. He served as a trustee from 1990-1995 and as Chairman of the Board from 1993-1995.
Following his retirement, Mr. Kyle served as Chairman of the Board of Faith Family Medical Center (FFMC), where he recently led a successful capital campaign that secured funding for a new medical center for the organization. He was a passionate advocate for FFMC’s mission to provide high-quality healthcare to working families who otherwise could not afford it.
Retirement also allowed Mr. Kyle to participate in ventures with many of Nashville’s next generation of entrepreneurs. He thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to offer his wisdom and counsel in endeavors ranging from real estate development, restaurant startup, hotel development, to healthcare angel investing. He will be remembered as an incredibly kind, funny, and giving man who cared deeply about serving others.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer, his sons Garrett and Elliott, daughters-in-law Jennifer and Neill, and sisters Patricia Kyle Pinson and Ruth Kyle Fraker. Mr. Kyle was a doting grandfather to his four grandchildren: Will (13), Louise (10), James (7), and Lilly (5). His fifth grandchild will be born in November.
A visitation will be held on July 9 at St. George’s Episcopal Church from 4-6 pm. The funeral service will be held the following day at St. George’s at 3:30 with the Rev. Dr. Leigh Spruill officiating.
