Grace was quite a lady and was well known throughout the Nashville Community. In today’s terms, she would be called an activist for the less fortunate, an environmentalist, an astute political analyst and the matriarch of various groups throughout Nashville. Her humility, tremendous Catholic faith, and the belief that everyone deserved a 2nd chance are trademarks that made Grace loved by so many. Although busy raising her 10 children, Grace found time to be a PTO President at St Joseph’s School; managed Election Polling for many years at Madison High School; Cub Scout Den Mother; a flower gardener extraordinaire; as well as cooking monthly meals for over 35 years at The Dismas House. In fact, the Grace Morales Service Award is given at The Dismas House in recognition for the most outstanding volunteer each year. She never turned away anyone that needed a helping hand. Grace lived her Catholic faith through simple devotion and example.
The mother of 10 children, Grace was the co-founder of the J.H. Morales Sales Company formed in Nashville in 1957. She served the plumbing supply industry for more than 40 years, before moving over to help her second son Thomas Morales in the Movie Catering business.
Preceded in death by her parents, George and Gertrude Winslow; brothers, Roger, Charles and John Winslow; Joseph H. Morales, father of her children; and grandson, Jeremy Scott Morales. Survived by her sister, Marilyn Ann Winslow Brown, and children, Leslie Morales, Corinne (Moose) Moore, Joe (Sandra) Morales, Tom Morales, Mike (Kate) Morales, Jeff (Debbie) Morales, Tim (Helen) Morales, Patrick Morales, Bob (Angie) Morales and Stephanie Morales. Grace is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at The Cathedral of the Incarnation at 2 pm on Thursday March 9th, with Visitation and Reception immediately following the service until 7pm in the Fleming Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Dismas House, 1516 16th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37212 or Catholic Charities, 2806 McGavock Pike, Nashville, TN 37214.
