
HARPER, Helen Elizabeth Link, Died at Alive Hospice The Residence on June 19, 2012. Born September 18, 1917 in York, AZ. Preceded in death by her husband, Will T. Harper; daughter, Susan Helen Harper (born October 30, 1950 and died November 15, 1950); father and mother, John A. Link and Grace Hedges Link; sister, Dorothy Link Wheeler; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Harper. Survived by brother-in-law, James L. Harper; niece, Virginia H. Griffin; great nieces, Virginia C. Griffin and Joanna Lynne Griffin; great-great niece, Lindsey Perdue; great-great nephew, Mason Perdue; long-time neighbor and friend, Margaret Crockett. At an early age, Mrs. Harper moved with her family to Ft. Collins, CO, where she graduated from Ft. Collins High School in 1935. In 1939, she was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder. She subsequently came to Nashville to take a one-year Diabetic Internship at Vanderbilt Hospital, and then worked at Vanderbilt from 1940 to 1942. She then moved to Dayton, OH where she worked at the Miami Valley Hospital from 1942 to 1946. She then returned to Vanderbilt and then to the U.S. Veterans Administration Hospital in Nashville. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Harper had a long and distinguished career as a Clinical Dietitian. Mrs. Harper was a long-time member of Belmont United Methodist Church and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). Graveside services will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park at 11 a.m. the morning of Friday, June 22, 2012. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service.
