Helen “Honey” Henkel passed away on September 7, 2019. She was born in Nashville TN on April 9, 1929.She is preceded in death by husband Sylvester Henkel, parents Henry and Mary Frances Meiers and brothers Dr. Henry Meiers and Edward Meiers. She is survived by Sister Mary Ann Francis RSM, Jannis Hackney and many loving nieces and nephews.
Helen graduated from St. Bernard Academy and MTSU and was a retired Metro Nashville Public Schools teacher.
She was a lifelong member of St. Ann Catholic Church and was devoted to her faith and family. She believed in the power of prayer and spent much time praying for others, often seeking out saints and prayers for special causes.
An avid reader, knitter and crossword puzzle aficionado, she enjoyed those hobbies until her final days.
The family expresses appreciation to the Brighton Gardens caregivers and staff, as well as those at Mary Queen of Angels, for their care during her final years.
Visitation with the family will be on Monday, September 9, 4 – 8 pm with Rosary service at 7 pm at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday September 10 at 10 am at St. Ann Catholic Church, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann Catholic School or the Humane Association.
