

Hugh was born on July 6, 1941, in New Market, Alabama, to the late Woodrow Thomas Martin and Virginia Edwards Martin. From an early age, he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for craftsmanship—values that guided him throughout his life.
Hugh was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Martin, with whom he shared many years of devotion, partnership, and family life. Together, they built a home grounded in faith, love, and perseverance.
He dedicated 36 years of his professional life as a Metro Water Engineer, a career marked by commitment, reliability, and service to his community.
A man of faith, Hugh was a member of Friendship Pentecostal Church and Monroe Methodist Church, where he found fellowship and spiritual fulfillment. In his leisure time, he greatly enjoyed model trains and woodworking—hobbies that reflected his patience, creativity, and attention to detail.
Hugh was a devoted family man who leaves behind a lasting legacy of love. He is survived by his four children: Sherry Layne, Timothy Martin, Darrell Martin, and Lydia Johnson; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; five siblings; and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
Hugh D. Martin will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence, and the deep love he held for his family. His life was one of service, faith, and dedication, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held on February 2, 2026, from 11:00am to 1:00 pm at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, located at 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
The funeral service will follow on the same day, February 2, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the same venue.
A committal service is scheduled for February 2, 2026, following the service, also at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park.
