A lifelong Nashvillian, he attended Montgomery Bell Academy, Southwestern at Memphis (Rhodes College), and Vanderbilt. He married Lynn (Holt) Ragland in 1972 and with her had two children, James III (Trey) and Margaret (Meg). He spent his career at C.B. Ragland Co., working in various roles including store development, human resources, and brokerage, as well as serving on the board of directors. Jim was a devoted member of St. George’s Episcopal Church. He spent his weekends working in his yard, and his perennially green grass was the envy of friends and neighbors. Jim had a passion for music and brought the oldies alive for many years as the bassist of The Original Charades. His family and friends will remember him for his subtle sense of humor, his spirit of kindness and generosity, his unwavering support of his children, and his pride in his family and the life they built together.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James B. Ragland, Sr. and Evelyn Kingins Ragland.
He is survived by his wife Lynn; son Trey of Douglasville, GA; daughter Meg (Ian Love) of Chicago, IL; sister Claire (French) McKnight of Nashville; brother-in-law Berry (Celeste) Holt of Nashville; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
A private service will be held for family at a later date.
Memorial Gifts in Jim’s honor may be made to St. George’s Episcopal Church (www.stgeorgesnashville.org), Alive Hospice (www.alivehospice.org), or a charity of your choice.
