

Survived by daughter Ann Litton Tuck, son James C. Tuck (Sara) and daughter Mary Carter Jones, grandchildren Sarah Litton Carter and James L. Carter. He is predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Ann Rowland Tuck and parents James O. Tuck and Zilpha C. Atkins Tuck.
A native of Weakley County, Mr. Tuck graduated from Vanderbilt University where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, ODK and DKE fraternities, the track and wrestling teams.
During World War II he was an Army Air Force pilot in the “Hump” Operation, flying troops and supplies into China from bases in the Assam Valley of India for which he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Returning to Vanderbilt after the war, he graduated from its law school in 1947, as a Founders Medalist and president of the student body. Mr. Tuck continued his service to the country as a member of the Tennessee Air National Guard retiring in 1977 with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Representing the 34th District for the first three terms of the Metro Council, he was chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee. Following retirement from the council, he served as head of a select citizens committee to study and report upon the city’s budgets and methods of financing.
At National Life, among his other duties, he served as General Counsel for its subsidiary companies, WSM Radio and Television, computer operation NLTCS and Opryland U.S.A. After retiring from National Life and WSM, Mr. Tuck was City Attorney for the City of Belle Meade from 1983 until 1999.
As a long time member of West End United Methodist Church he served on the official Board of Trustees. He and his wife also served as lay delegates to the Tennessee Methodist Annual Conference.
The family would like to thank all those who helped take care of him, particularly Gladys Vanzant, Deborah Ewing, Ashley Gill and the Alive Hospice Team, Always Best Care and the entire staff at Richland Place.
