James Michael Wood, age 76, of Nashville, Tennessee, left behind his earthly vessel to continue forth, towards the Light, on Thursday, March 17, 2022. He was born July 30, 1945 in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late, James Waymon Wood and Rosalyn Sheram Wood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayman Houston Wood.
J. Michael Wood is survived by his wife, Anh Mai Tran of Nashville, Tennessee; his son, Skymichael-Christopher, of Nashville, Tennessee; two brothers, John-Price and sister-in-law, Jane, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and also Thomas-Shirley and sister-in-law, Susan, of Smyrna, Tennessee. Also his step-daughter, Huyen Thi Diem Vo, and grandson, (Jimmy) Khoa Dao Jares.
J. Michael proudly served in the Military and honored all who did. Throughout his life, he continued forth with the fortitude to take on and achieve many extraordinary goals that only a handful of men ever achieve. Ever learning, he put his knowledge, in many fields, to good use by continually helping others, wherever he went, in many ways, whilst also running his financial planning and insurance business, for over thirty years.
Unknown to many, J. Michael also toured and worked with famous bands, and was particularly close to and traveled with The Oak Ridge Boys.
He also played Table Tennis (Ping Pong) and toured as a semi-professional. He was a multiple time Champion Jet Boat Racer and then shifted to Drag Racing after building a rail car with the engine out of his Jet Boat and won the Louisville Championship with one of his rail cars in the early 1990's.
He also owned the APA - American Poolplayers Association and was a part of S.N.A.P.P., where he sponsored and hosted the world's greatest pool players in his home, as well as touring with them. Some of these Professional players even lived with him in his home for up to 10 years, including Loui Lemke and his best friend, Joe Blackburn.
J. Michael was a Breathing Coach for many individual College and Professional Sports players and teams, including, in Nashville, Tennessee, the Vanderbilt football, baseball and basketball teams, the Nashville Sounds and many others across the state and country.

J. Michael was a 33° Scottish Rite Freemason, out of the Doric Lodge #732, F&AM, where he was a Past Master and was currently serving as Chaplain. His work with the Masonic order was profound and inspiring to too many to count.
In 1999, J. Michael Wood woke up almost blind. After a series of mini-strokes and the recognition that modern medicine wasn't helping, J. Michael visited a Qigong master who helped him to restore his sight.
He determined to learn this art of healing, in order to help others, as he had been helped. Staying true to this, he went on to earn a Masters of Medical Qigong from the International Institute of Medical Qigong, and took advanced Medical Qigong training in Cancer Therapy from Dr. Jerry Alan Johnson. His Teacher Certification and extensive Advanced Training was achieved through Dr. Bernard Shannon. He then studied in China with the monks of the Celestial Masters Daoist Sect and trained in Medical Qigong with Master Duan Shi Liong, as well as Master Robert Peng, a Shaolin trained healer. He also trained in conscious breathing techniques with the Hendricks Institute (Drs. Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks) and Michael Grant White, author of Optimal Natural Breathing. With the Hendricks, he was Certified as a Professional Breath and Movement Coach. With Mr. White he served as a core faculty member at the school and was Certified as an Optimal Breathing Development Specialist. He was also certified as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner with the National Qigong Association, as well as serving on the Board of Directors for many years.
J. Michael studied at the International Institute of Medical Qigong, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Medical Qigong in 2003. He also did doctoral-level work in Oncology in 2004. He continued this work until his departure.
