He is survived by his wife, Fran Woodroof; Son David Woodroof (Karen Woodroof) and daughter Buffy Woodroof Vaughn (Richy Vaughn) Grand Children; Brandon (Madison) Woodroof, Melissa (Ben) Kimball, Hope White, Colin and Mallory Vaughn. Great-Grandchildren; Briley Vaughn, and special friend and caregiver, Jeff Kent. Nashville native and graduate of Antioch High School. Master's degree in science, and hall of fame football coach. Mason and a Shriner, and long time member of Hermitage Hills Baptist Church.

A visitation for James will be held Friday, December 11, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mt Olivet Funeral Home. A visitation will occur from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mount Olivet Funeral Home & Cemetery, 1101 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN 37210. A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Mount Olivet Funeral Home & Cemetery, 1101 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN 37210.
