

John Hamilton Longhurst, Jr., age 93, passed away on June 21, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Audrey R. Longhurst; children, Carol Anne (Tom) Nadeau, Suzanne Humphress, and John (Blanca) Longhurst III; seven grandchildren, Bobby Bibb, Jenny Bibb Schmidt, John Bibb, Bethany Teahan, Scott Humphress, Jessica Murdock, and Kinsley Longhurst; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Longhurst was preceded in death by his father, John H. Longhurst, Sr., mother, Tommie Harrison Longhurst, and sister, Mary Frances Rice.
Mr. Longhurst graduated from East High School. He served four and a half years in the army during WWII of which two and a half years were served overseas in the China, Burma, and India (CBI) Theatre of Operations.
After the war, Mr. Longhurst joined Sharp & Dohme of Philadelphia serving for six years as their representative in India, Pakistan, and Burma. Upon returning to Nashville, he became associated with several companies, finally retiring in 1986.
Mr. Longhurst was a fifty-year member of the Masonic Order, and a former member and past president of the Green Hills Civitan Club.
Just prior to retiring, Mr. Longhurst became interested in photography. He became a nature/scenic photographer in amateur circles. His work has been exhibited at Long Hunter State Park, Nashville State Tech, Cheekwood, and Centennial Art Center. He has also been published several times in The Tennessee Conservation Magazine. Until recently, Mr. Longhurst was a member and past president of the Nashville Photography Club.
Visitation will be held from two until six o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 23rd of June 2013 at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held at eleven-thirty in the afternoon on Monday, the 24th of June 2013 at Woodlawn Memorial Park with visitation to be held one hour prior to the service.
