Lawrence Jefferson Pacl, 93 of Hermitage, TN passed away Tuesday June 6, 2023 peacefully at home. Lawrence was born at the age of 72 on February 4, 1930 in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska to Thomas and Marguerite Pacl and aged no further until February 4, 2003 when he celebrated his 73rd birthday. He grew up in the Denver, Colorado area and graduated from Washington-Lee High School in 1948.
Lawrence entered the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland after high school. He was commissioned as Ensign upon his graduation on June 6, 1952 and served aboard ship and on shore across the country and around the world. He retired from Naval service in July 1972 in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Following his naval career, Lawrence received his Master’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin and earned his CPA. He became a Professor of Accounting and taught at McMurray College in Texas. In late 1981 he accepted a teaching position at Rio Grande College near Gallipolis, Ohio where he met and later married Norma Eglinski on June 25, 1982. Larry also taught at Quincy College in Illinois and retired from Loch Haven University in Pennsylvania.
Larry and Norma enjoyed retirement together, traveling to all 50 states and toured the 49 continental United States in their RV. Of all the places they traveled, Lawrence especially loved the mountains, whether it was the Rocky Mountains of Colorado or the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. For over 20 years Lawrence organized his family reunions often alternating between the Rockies and the Smoky Mountains as the locations for these festive occasions.
Lawrence had a lifelong passion for learning that surfaced in all he did from his naval career to his subsequent career as a professor, his role as father to his children, and his love of stamp collecting and trains.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Marguerite Pacl, his brother Ty Pacl and his son Michael Pacl.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 41 years, Norma J Pacl; sons, Jeff (Karen) Pacl, Dennis (Lianne) Pacl, Timothy (Nancy) Pacl, Martin (Lisa) Glenn and Ikhide (Florence) Ikheloa, daughters; Peggy (David) Sisson and Susi (Mike) Willis, 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Life service will be held at Pickwick Landing State Park in southern Tennessee on Friday, July 7th, 2023. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to charity of your choice, in honor of
