She was born on September 5, 1913, in Lodge, Illinois, the daughter of the late William and Hannah Eades. She worked as a librarian for Barrington Public Library. She enjoyed Folgers coffee and solving crossword puzzles featured in “The Tennessean.” The secret to her longevity was her blackberry wine and Folgers.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, George Melville Thompson, Matthew Thomas and Walter Gruber; sister, Lora McClellan, and brother, Virthel Eades.
She is survived by her daughters, Georgia B. Phelps and her husband, Steven, and Sherry Franco and her husband, Fernando; grandsons, William McGrew, John McGrew and his wife, Beth Wengrow, and Garrett McGrew; and nieces and nephews, Judith Anne Scroggins, Leah Massingill, Roy Roger Eades and Myrna Faye McManus.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home with Dr. Brynda Quinn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nashville Zoo at Grassmere, 3777 Nolensville Pike, Nashville, Tennessee 37211 for the Giant Anteater Conservation Exhibit, or to Best Friends Animal Society at secure.bestfriends.org.
