Melissa Carol Mayfield Overton, age 71, passed away on April 17, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Devoted mother, spouse, sister and grand-mother, preceded in death by her parents, Earl Mayfield adn Elizabeth Bennett, stepmother, Virginia Mayfield and brother, David Mayfield. Survived by her spouse, Paul Overton and children, Deborah Meyer (Thomas) and Brandon Mullinax (Valeries; grandson, Brendan Anderson; brother, Gary Mayfield (Ann) and sister, Jacquelyn Gayle Mayfield (Joseph); sister-in-law Mary Ann Mayfield and nieces, nephews and friends. A graduate of West End High School, she attended MTSU and worked as a program director for over 30 years with the Metropolitan Nashville Health Department. She was co-founder of "Informer/Community News" in Spring Hill and board member of the US Community Credit Union. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center and Alive Hospice. Family will receive friends from 4-8 pm on Monday, April 21st at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 22nd at 10:30 am at First Southern Methodist Church at 4409 Colorado Avenue, Nashville.
