I am out of words and quite don't know what to say at this moment.  Let me start by saying "Thanks for everything brother". You were one of the Marines who stopped me from going down the hill during  a fire fight  somewhere in the lumber yard. Can't bear to imagine what could have happened if I did not listen to you then. You always kept us on our toes, kept everyone safe and you were always there no matter what. Let us remember you with all the good and happy memories in 3/3 India Company.

Michael Brent, there's a lot I should have said to you. I remember our last in person conversation as you boarded the plane in Hawaii to return to Mississippi. You and I did not always see eye to eye, tactically, and it was appropriate that I was able to see you off in the summer of 2006. I'll never forget that day.

Your competence and dedication to our craft as professional warfighters was uncanny and cannot be understated. I must echo Brigadier General Cooling aka Trinity 6's, sentiment, not only did your leadership save lives, but it inspired a generation of Marines to simply do the right thing and actually give a crap. 

Those lessons, I know, were passed on to my Marines and so on. "Weapon, gear, body", "Know your stuff and be able to PT", "Stop Complaining", and "Take care of your guys",  just to name a few. I imagine that you're having a dip of Copenhagen snuff, cleaning your "boomstick", looking down on us, smiling and laughing.

Thank you brother; thank you for everything. Rest well, and we'll see you on the other side.

Dunnication-  This was the word used in 1st platoon and was sung in cadence to describe a Marine who far exceeded the expectations of dedication to his brothers-in-arms.  Michael Dunn was truly loved and respected by all the Marines and Sailors who served for and along side him.  I was and forever will be honored to have served as his Platoon Sergeant in Afghanistan.  To the Dunn family, know that you will always have a special place in my thoughts and prayers.  

Always Faithful

Hero among men. A fearless leader. Always walked and talked with a level of confidence most cant muster in a lifetime. This world has lost another Warrior, and another has gained a Great One. It's been a long time. I always hoped I would cross paths with this fine gentleman sometime in the future to reiterate what an inspiration he was to my development as an individual with integrity, loyalty, and conviction. I will now have to wait till God calls me home. As I have no doubt he is in the ranks of Gods many Fearless Angels. FORTUNA FORTES JUVAT!!!

Having had the honor of serving as Mike's battalion commander in 3/3, and being fully aware of his superb performance as a squad leader with India Company during our combat operations, it was with deep remorse that I learned of his passing.  Without a doubt, Mike's leadership saved lives in Iraq.  May God grant the Dunn family peace and quickly replace the pain of Mike's passing with pleasant memories of the times you were able to share with him.  God Bless you.  Semper Fidelis, Norm Cooling 

Mike was my first team leader in the Marine Corps in 3/3. I can and will always remember him wanting me to understand that it is not about always being the best at the job but to understand the job through and through is what makes you the best.  He was a fair and honest man and great leader. I will miss you my friend and may you rest easily and peacefully. 

My deepest sympathies to Familt and friends I worked with Michael in Nashville no matter how bad of a day you might have had he always had a funny story or say something that would make you laugh God Bless you during this difficult time. Michael will be greatly missed around here. 

Mike was a respectful young man and adult. He was extremely talented in high school. Mike loved his family . His beautiful smile was like a bright light when he spoke of his children. Praying for comfort and peace for each of Mike’s family.  Thankful that I had the opportunity to know him as a young man and see him grow to manhood and become a loving father.

My deepest sympathy to all his family and friends.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.  I knew Mike since his school days.  My daughter was in the band with him,  percussion section where he excelled!  He was a fine young man!  He had many achievements to be proud of.  His memories live on.  God Bless!

I would like to offer my condolences to Mike’s family and friends during this time. Mike was always a very good friend to me in high school, just a nice guy. I will be praying for God’s comfort and peace that surpasses all understanding. God Bless you all!
