Milbrey Deane Mattox Burke, age 94, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on November 7th, 2024 after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Frank Mattox, Sr. and Inez Gill Mattox, her brothers, Robert F. (Bobby) Mattox Jr. and William L. (Billy) Mattox. her son, John Houston (Jay) Burke III and the love of her life of over 70 years, her husband, John Houston Burke Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Burke Walden (Rick), grandchildren, Lacey Walden Madras (Christopher). Lee Andrew Walden (Leah) and great grandchildren, Ryan Burke Madras, Reid Barrett Madras, Cora Gray Walden, and John David Walden.
Milbrey grew up in West Nashville and graduated from Cohn High School where she was a force of nature. She served as a class officer, Best Personality, Cheerleader, and drama and debate team. She always gave of herself 110% at whatever she did. She was a beautiful christian lady, wife and mother and the epitome of a truly southern belle. She loved helping and doing for others whether it was helping at church, a volunteer driver for cancer patients or taking food for those in need. The word "Can't" simply did not exist in her vocabulary. She was a wonderful woman who will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all that knew her. Milbrey was a member of Lebanon Road Church of Christ for over 60 years.
A visitation for Milbrey will be held on Wednesday November 13th, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hermitage Funeral Home 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN 37138. Following the visitation there will be a graveside service from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens 9090 TN-100, Nashville, TN 37221.
