Mildred Brown Rice (Millie) entered her Heavenly Home on February 6, 2015. She was predeceased by husband James Anderson Porter Jr. who was killed in a plane crash in 1955. She later married Edward C Rice in 1967. He died in 2004. Millie had no immediate family but considered her church, Immanuel Baptist, her family where she was a member for many years. She attended Hume-Fogg High School and Vanderbilt University. She worked for many years at Caster Knott Department Store as the Personnel Director. She then worked as a Tour Guide. Through work and with Ed she traveled all over the world. Although she had no children, she had a great love for all the little ones and supported children’s hospitals and schools with her time and finances. Although she always worked, she had many hobbies. She was an avid reader. She love gardening, crafts, painting, bridge, sewing, cooking, music, dancing and sports (especially football). Her prayer was always that her Heavenly Father would let her know how best to give what she had to be used to His Glory. Millie will be greatly missed by many friends and neighbors. Visitation with the family will be held Monday February 9, 2015 from 12 o’clock until the Celebration of Life service at 1 o’clock at Immanuel Baptist Church – Pastor Steven Meriwether, presiding. The graveside internment will follow at the Woodlawn-Roesch Patton Memorial Gardens. Friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 222 Belle Meade Blvd. Nashville, TN 37205 or to the charity of your choice.
