Mrs. Todd was born in Bristol, Virginia on March 31, 1936. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in Nashville, Tennessee and married Louis B. Todd, Jr. of Nashville on August 25, 1956.
Ballet was her passion. She began as a student at the age of three, became an assistant teacher at 12 and a teacher at 16, working throughout Middle Tennessee and in her home studio until 1971.
She devoted her life to her husband and children and to volunteer work for many charitable and arts organizations including Nashville Ballet, where she served on the Board of Directors and was one of the founders of Friends of the Ballet; Fannie Battle Day Home; Santa's Helpers; and Meals on Wheels. While living in Morristown, New Jersey from 1971 until 1982, she took a leadership role in fundraising for Morristown Memorial Hospital, originating the Mansion in May designer show house; for Kent Place School, she started the Sugarplum Shop fundraising event. In Nashville, she was a member of the Centennial Club and Woodmont Christian Church.
Her friends and family received the benefits of her talents as a hostess and cook, accomplished needle woman, gardener, and decorator. She loyally accompanied her husband to practically every Vanderbilt University home football and basketball game. She loved Paris, parties, and dancing.
She is survived by her husband; her children and their spouses Patricia Todd Kelly and Sean Kelly of Brooklyn, New York; Louis B. Todd, III and Julie Portwood Todd of Atlanta; and James Harwell Todd and Bonney Guy Todd of Nashville; five grandchildren Charles McLaughlin Kelly; Louis B. Todd, IV, Andrew Julian Todd; Anne Louis Todd, and James Harwell Todd, Jr.; and her Bichon Bruiser.
Her family deeply appreciates the love and support her many friends gave "Pat" during her illness.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, October 14 at Woodmont Christian Church from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A second visitation will be at Woodmont at noon on Thursday, October 15 before the funeral at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Nashville Ballet or Woodmont Christian Church.
