Payton “Poppy” Hendricks, 94 passed 16th of May 2016 in his home in Chapel Hill, Tennessee. Payton is survived by his wife Norma Hendricks son Paul Hendricks, and daughter Shirley Smith as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Payton was born on December 20th 1921 in Central City, Kentucky. He later moved to Akron, Ohio where he met Norma King and later married her in Evansville, Indiana. They were married for 62 years. Payton retired from the Nashville bridge company in 1986 and attended United Church of God in Nashville, TN.
Ever the southern storyteller Payton loved reminiscing about the past, singing, and playing his guitar or fiddle, two of his favorite songs being “The Raindrop Waltz” and “The Spanish Fandango”. He enjoyed the feeling of breaking a sweat with his hand to the plow, mowing the lawn, or performing carpentry projects around the house. Truth be told though, his real passion was God and his wife Norma. He embarked on a difficult journey leaving behind the life he knew to find and follow God wholeheartedly. Not a single day passed without prayer or without telling his beautiful loving wife “I love you today”. This is his real legacy and this is what he was loved for and will be remembered for.
Visitation will be held at Woodlawn Roesch Patton Funeral Home 660 Thompson Lane Nashville, Sunday May 22, 2016 from Eleven O’clock in the morning until One O’clock in the afternoon, Funeral will begin at One O’clock in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall, Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
