Philip H. Paul

Philip Harding Paul, Sr., 92, passed away Friday, May 30 at NHC Place Cool Springs in Franklin, Tennessee. Philip obtained his BS in Agriculture from MTSU in 1957 and enlisted in the Army after college. He was discharged after a tour in Okinawa in 1961. Philip Married Clara June Rogers of Saltillo, Mississippi in 1964, and settled on Old Hickory Boulevard in Antioch in 1965. June died in an accident in 1976.

Philip retired from the US Postal Service in 1987 after thirty-five years. Philip farmed cattle for sixty years, and served on the Board of the Davidson County Farmer’s Co-op for several years and the Tennessee State Fair Board for a number of years. In 1995 Philip married Margaret (Peggy) Cole Burnett and relocated to Columbia, Tennessee where he lived for thirty years until his death. Peggy died after a protracted illness in 2007. Philip said the best decision of his lifetime was when he was baptized into the Church of Christ at the age of eleven years. Philip was affable and gregarious, and his community and family knew they could depend on him for support in times of need.

He is survived by his daughter Melonie Smith (Carlos), son Philip Jr. (Andrew Lee), step-daughter Rene Burnett Jacobs (Pete), step-son Scott Burnett (Veronica), granddaughters Chelsea Smith and Sydni Smith, step-granddaughter Heather Barr Blankenship (Read), step-grandson Colt Burnett, goddaughter Lashawn Hall and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Frances Montgomery, Cecil Paul, Howard Paul, Roxy Virginia St Cyr, Jim Paul and Rachel Thomas. Philip will be sorely missed by many extended family members, his church family and many friends.

A gathering of family and friends for Philip will be held Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
