He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years Sarah Jean Halbach Riner, his father, Delmar Robert Riner, mother, Ada Jane Riner, sister Charlotte Ann Farmer, and brother Gary Mack Riner.
He is survived by sister Peggy Jane Riner, two sons, William Charles Riner and Philman Robert Riner, grandchildren, Claire Riner, Alex Riner, Jennifer Hammontree, Sarah Tate, and Steven Riner, great-grandchildren, Emma Kate Riner, Conner Hammontree, Carson Hammontree, and Eva Tate, and several nieces and nephews.
He graduated from ETSU and Peabody College. He was employed as a school teacher in Nashville. He volunteered for many years at Hospital Hospitality House and Meals on Wheels. He attended Belmont Heights Baptist Church in Nashville and was a member of the Dynamo Class.
Visitation will be held from four o’clock in the evening until eight on Friday, February 7th, 2010, at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall with a visitation one hour prior. He will be buried with full military honors.
