

Ray Hawkins died on October 11, 2014 at his home in Nashville, TN.
Born in Frankfort, KY on January 29, 1945 to the late Raymond and Martene Hawkins,
he is survived by his wife, Pamela Hawkins; sons, Philip (Heather) Hawkins of Louisville, KY
and Erick (Hailee) Hunt-Hawkins of Nashville, TN;
and grandchildren, Tyler, Harper, Hayden, and Emerson Hawkins of Louisville, KY.
The first member of his family to complete college,
Ray received his undergraduate degree from Transylvania University,
and later completed a graduate degree in Social Work from the
Kent School of Social Work at the University of Louisville.
For much of his working life, Ray dedicated his energy and talent to helping persons
who are underserved, in need, or under-represented in the community.
Over the years, Ray worked for and with children in foster care;
families and children impacted by incarceration;
women and children who are abused and neglected;
refugees fleeing violence in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam;
members of the LGBT community who experience prejudice and violence;
and persons who, for any reason,
are in need of shelter, food, and comfort both at home and abroad.
Later he worked in the corporate sector in human resource services,
continuing to assist and equip individuals to claim their gifts and vocations.
In the years before retirement, Ray was especially proud to work at Indatus of Louisville
(formerly Planet telecom of New Albany, IN),
a company in which his son, Philip, is President and co-owner.
A life-long member of the body of Christ, Ray was baptized and grew up as a Disciple of Christ in Frankfort.
He transferred his membership to the United Methodist Church after his marriage to Pamela,
and when she became an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church,
he faithfully ministered in each congregation she served.
A Memorial Service for Ray will be held in the Sanctuary of Belmont United Methodist Church in Nashville, TN
at two thirty in the afternoon on Sunday, October 19th.
Visitation will take place at the church on Saturday, October 18th from two until four o'clock in the afternoon in the Iris Room.
