Robert Tucker (Bobby) Davis passed away peacefully at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, Wednesday, July 17, 2019. His last day was spent like most of his days – impacting the lives of others through his faith and the way he lived life. He was in the company of family and friends, which were indistinguishable in his life. Born March 5th, 1931, in Nashville, Bobby lived his entire life in the area. He was the beneficiary of a Catholic education at Overbrook School, St. Joseph School in Bardstown, KY, and Father Ryan High School class of 1950. After two-years of service in the Army at Fort Meade in Maryland, he graduated from Vanderbilt Peabody College. His professional career included Saint Thomas Hospital, Cain-Sloan, and the State of Tennessee, where he retired as the Assistant Director of Fiscal Services in the Department of Health. He served on many Boards including Christ the King School and Tennessee Workers Credit Union (Southeast Financial Credit Union) as Chair.
In 1955, he married Marjorie (Margie) Elizabeth Pruitt. That blessing extended for over 62 years until Margie’s death in 2018. Together, they raised six children. That has resulted in 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Bobby and Margie also have 26 nieces and nephews. Their idea of “family,” though, extended to all they met. To know them was to love them. To love them was to be part of their family.
Bobby is preceded in death by his wife, Margie; parents Katherine and Philip J. Davis; sister, Mary Jo Levine (A.T.); brothers, Philip J. Davis, and John Davis (Mac); brother-in-laws Bill Alexander and Roy Manning, sister-in-law Dolores Davis, and grandson, Kevin Paul Davis. He is survived by sisters Helen Alexander, Jane Manning, Sister Philip Joseph, O.P, and brothers, Al and Frank Davis and sister-in-law Ellen Davis; daughters, Sissy Davis Murphy; Lucy (Marty) Blair; and Christy (Brent) Cullison; sons, Tucker (Tina), Paul (Teresa), and Rick (Susan). Visitation will be Friday, July 26, in Christ the King’s Marian Hall from 4 until 7 p.m. with a Rosary to follow. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, with interment at Calvary Cemetery following. Concelebrating at the Funeral Mass will be Monsignor John McArthur of Memphis, with Fr. Joe McMahon. There will be a reception in Christ the King’s Marian Hall following the Funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider contributions to the Kevin Paul Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund at Father Ryan High School; 770 Norwood Drive; Nashville, TN 37204 or to The Saint Dominic School Torchbearer Fund; 1474 E. Center Street; Kingsport, TN 37664 in support of tuition assistance. Bobby was a lifelong supporter and proponent of Catholic education.
