Ruth was born on November 15, 1926 in Nashville, the daughter of Abner Kirkland and Gladys Sittloh Bone. She married Charles Barton on October 10, 1947 in Nashville, and he precedes her in death along with her parents, and two sisters, Dorothy (Raymond) Upham and Norma (Wallace) Trawick.
Surviving are daughters, Lynne Black and Terri (Lynn) McMillin; grandchildren, Stephanie (Billy) Cothern, Kristy (Matthew) Raymer, and Amy (Kevin) Jones; great-grandchildren, Jason and Ashlynn Cothern, Jacob and Ethan Raymer, and Alex and Juliet Jones; and dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ruth was a gentle and quiet, yet strong and independent women. She was very dedicated to her family, dependable and loving, with a keen sense of humor. She lived a life of honesty, integrity, and loyalty. Over the years, she was a homemaker, worked as a medical assistant, and served as business partner of DMI Supply Company with her husband for over 20 years. She enjoyed reading, sewing and baking, but her greatest pleasure was being MeMaw to family and friends alike.
Ruth was a Christian woman and lifelong member of the Baptist faith. She was a past member of Donelson First Baptist Church and its Ladies Auxiliary, Two Rivers Baptist Church, and most recently The Fellowship at Two Rivers.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Dignity Hall at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, with Pastor Scott Matthews officiating on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 2:00 pm. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm. Burial of cremated remains will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Nashville, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s honor to Alive Hospice, Nashville Rescue Mission, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
