Sherry Denise Hooten

Sherry Denise Hooten, age 53, passed away peacefully in her home on July 24, 2025, surrounded by those who loved her most. Sherry had fought a long hard battle with cancer and many other medical issues over the last 7 years. She was known for staying positive throughout her battles which contributed to keeping her with us this long.

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 30, 1971, she was the beloved daughter of Shirley Diane Cunningham and Johnny Wayne Vanderpool Sr.

Sherry graduated from Hillwood Highschool in 1989 and lived a life full of creativity, compassion, and warmth. Outgoing and deeply caring, she had a gift for crafting—particularly wreath-making, sewing, and paper art—and found joy in gardening, fashion, and bargain shopping. She had a deep love for her cats and often said she loved animals more than people.

More than anything, Sherry was proud to be a mother. Her daughter, Alexandra Fulton, was the center of her world. Sherry was also a supporter of the Nashville Opera and enjoyed participating in the local arts scene.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 20 years, George Edward Hooten. Together, they built a wonderful life in the heart of Brentwood, TN. They both had a deep love for fine jewelry and antiques.

Sherry is survived by her daughter Alexandra (Sam) Fulton; her mother, Shirley Diane Cunningham; Father, Johnny (Christal) Wayne Vanderpool Sr.; Siblings, Johnny (Laura) W. Vanderpool Jr., and Julie Anne Vanderpool; her niece, Isabella Woodward; and her 6 beloved cats.

Sherry will be remembered for her creativity, her sweet and outgoing spirit, and her unwavering love for family, animals, and art. Her vibrant presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A gathering of family & friends for Sherry will be held Monday, July 28, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mount Olivet Funeral Home & Cemetery, 1101 LEBANON PIKE, NASHVILLE, TN 37210.
