Stu is survived by his wife, Dottie, his son Don Miller (Linda), his granddaughter, Ragon Miller, his brother Mark Miller of Anaheim Hills, and sister Martha Farley of Atlanta. He is preceded in death by his father, George B. Miller, his mother, Henrietta (Bunny Kraus, and his daughter, Sharon Miller.
Stu was born in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Landon High School in Jacksonville, Florida. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, and his MBA from Vanderbilt University's Owen Graduate School of Management in Nashville, TN, where he also taught as Lecturer in Management in 1984 and 1987.
Stu began his career in the retail department store business with his father but soon realized his future was in the world of information systems and technology. He had a varied career working for such companies as CBS/Columbia Records, Restaurant Associates and Railway Express Agency (REA) all in New York City. Opportunities took the family to Florida where Stu had an executive IT position with GAC Corporation, a large, planned community developer. The family moved to Nashville in 1975 and settled in for good. Stu had several executive IT positions in telecommunications, healthcare and software development. As he said, he "failed at retirement four times," but loved doing what he did, mentoring and learning every day from the people who surrounded him, young and old alike.
Stu was active in the Nashville community, serving for ten-plus years on the Board of Park Center, an agency for recovery from severe and persistent mental illness, and as Chairman of the Board for two of those years. He was also an instructor in Vanderbilt's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and a longtime moderator of the Current Events Discussion Group at the Green Hills Public Library. Stu enjoyed his biweekly meetings with "The Gents" group of retirees from all walks of life.
Stu loved life, and doted on his daughter, his granddaughter, his son, and his wife, all of whom he was very proud.
He will forever be remembered for his sharp wit, ready smile, kindness, and generosity.
