Teresa V. Street passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her husband and children after a long battle with chronic illness. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, she moved with her family to Memphis, Tennessee, when she was a small child. She attended Westside High School in Memphis before attending Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, MS, where she majored in physical education. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1971, and then began a teaching career. She met her husband, Earl, while she was in college, as he was an active-duty airman stationed at the Columbus Air Force Base. They met on a blind date and married in August 1972.
Earl’s Air Force career took them all around the country to New Mexico, Alaska, South Dakota, Hawaii, Georgia, and finally, to Nashville, Tennessee. By the time Teresa and Earl settled in Nashville, Earl was ready to retire from the Air Force and they had created two children along the way. Teresa continued her teaching career until 1978 when their oldest child was born, and she became a stay-at-home mom until the youngest started school in 1986.
Teresa held several jobs in Nashville, working retail and as a bank teller. She spent the final years of her working life as a secretary for Metro Nashville Public Schools, returning to her roots in education. Teresa was kind, compassionate, and most of all, loved people. Teresa never met a stranger. Most people loved her, too, dubbing her “Mama T,” a nickname that she embraced wholeheartedly. A breast cancer survivor, Teresa believed in living life to the fullest.
Teresa is survived by her husband, Earl; her two children, Ennica and Wes; her daughters-in-law, Jamie and Sonya; her grandsons, Carter and Mason; her granddaughter-in-law, Kiley; and her great-granddaughter, Brooklynn.
A gathering of family and friends for Teresa will be held Friday, August 29, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204, followed by a celebration of life from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
