

Dr. William H. (Bill) Anderson, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Anderson had resided at Burton Court at the Blakeford from 2010 until April 2016, and later at Barton House.
He was a retired Colonel in the United States Air Force, having served a total of 30 years both in active and reserve duty. He received his Doctoral Degree in Psychology from the University of Tennessee and was a Licensed Clinical and Educational Psychologist.
Dr. Anderson was also retired from the Veterans’ Administration Hospital where he served as Chief, Alcohol & Substance Abuse Program for over 20 years. For many of those years Dr. Anderson held an appointment as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University.
Prior to his illness, Bill was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, especially enjoying his Sunday School Class, friends, and Christian fellowship.
He is predeceased by son, William Edward Anderson and daughter Laura Anderson Glenn, children from his marriage to the late Faye Hardy. He is also predeceased by his son Dr. Steven Michael Anderson, M.D., his son with wife Kay Edney Anderson. He is survived by wife Kay and several grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Burton Court and Barton House for their kind and compassionate care of Dr. Anderson over the past 6 plus years. The family also wishes to acknowledge Alive Hospice at 1718 Patterson Street, for their kindness, caring, and clinical expertise during his final days.
There will be no scheduled visitation. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Lane, with the Reverend Mark DeVries officiating.
Graveside services are open to all that wish to attend.
