Bill was born on December 1, 1931 in the Bronx, New York to William S. and Katherine Culhane. He attended Fordham University on the G.I. Bill after having served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. Upon graduation from Fordham, he worked for the Taylor Wine Company in Atlanta, Georgia where he met and wed the love of his life, Carolyn Hunt. He then worked for The Wine Spectrum/Coca Cola and later in life he formed his own wine brokerage representing vineyards all over the world. Eventually he retired at 82 years old to spend his golden years with his wife. Together they had three children, Sean (Marybeth), Kathleen (Mark) and Patrick.
Bill had a quick, dry wit, was a famed storyteller known to embellish, was quick to tickle the ivories during gatherings, and an accomplished accordionist. He was a devout Catholic, longtime friend of the Society of Jesus, Green Hills Rotarian, Paul Harris Fellow, Knights of Columbus and Knights of the Vine.
He is preceded in death by his father, William, and his mother, Katherine. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn, of 57 years along with his three children, Sean, Kathleen, Patrick, his sister, Ann, several cousins, nieces, and grandchildren, Katie (23), Emily (21), Alex (21), Hannah Grace (18), Jack (16), and Sam (14).
The family will hold a private funeral service and then hold a memorial service for family and friends when the pandemic restrictions have been lifted. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations in Bill's memory go towards the American Parkinson's Disease Association, P.O. Box 61420, Staten Island, New York 10306 or online at https://www.apdaparkinson.org/1907d3l/.
