Bill Hayes, age 86, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 in Alpharetta, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Craig Hayes and Margaret Louise (Witt) Hayes and niece Stacey Newman. He is survived by his son, William Craig Hayes III, his former wife Connie Hayes, his brother Tom Hayes (Christine) and his nephews Andy, Tom and Joe Hayes.
Bill was born in Nashville, TN and lived in Birmingham, AL, Gadsden, AL, Chicago, IL, Knoxville, TN, Atlanta, GA, Savannah, GA and Miami, FL while growing up. He graduated from Miami High School in 1950. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from June 1951to December 1952, stationed for a period of time at Fort Huachuca, AZ. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1956 with a degree in Journalism. While at the University of Tennessee, Bill served as president of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity for two years.
Bill worked for Swift and Company for a number of years. After leaving Swift, he purchased Fashion Cleaners in Pensacola, FL and ran the cleaners until his retirement in 1994. Bill lived in Pensacola, FL from 1979 until 2016 when he moved to Alpharetta, GA. Bill enjoyed going to Whataburger in Pensacola and Dreamland BBQ while living in Alpharetta.
Bill’s was an avid sports fan, with a passion for baseball and football. His favorite professional teams were the Atlanta Braves and the New Orleans Saints.
Visitation with the family Monday, April 9th from 1:00 pm until 2:00 p.m. at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
