William Warner McNeilly, Jr.

Warner McNeilly, Jr. passed away at Alive Hospice on April 1, 2018. He was born on March 20, 1929 in Nashville, TN to William Warner McNeilly, Sr. and Katharin Witherspoon McNeilly. He attended Parmer School, Hillsboro High School, Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt Law School. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Jean Woods McNeilly. He is survived by three children, William Warner McNeilly, III (Amy), Jean McNeilly Simmons (Bill) and Elizabeth McNeiily Johnson (James), six grandchildren, Alexandra Parr (Russell), Christina Merrow (Ian), Samantha Simmons, William Warner McNeilly, IV, Trent Henderson McNeilly and Eli James Johnson, and three great grandchildren. He served in the US Naval Reserves form 1953-1973. He was an active duty officer in the Office of the Judge Advocate General of the Navy from 1953-1957. He was Deputy Clerk & Master for Davidson County from 1958-1960. He entered the private practice of law with Watkins, McGugin & Stewart (now Watkins & McNeilly) in 1960 where he retired in 2002. He was a charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He became a member of First Presbyterian Church in 2004. He served on the Boards of Martha O’Bryan Center, Nashville Chamber of Commerce, and Better Business Bureau. He was a devoted husband and father who will be dearly missed. He loved gardening, all things Vanderbilt, travel and his family. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Rd. Nashville, TN with visitation preceding beginning at 12:30 p.m. in Courtenay Hall.
