William Clyde Sutton, age 99, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on September 25, 2020. Clyde was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Nancy North Sutton, and his grandson, James Wesley Adcock. He is survived by his children, Sharon Cicero (Manny), Bill Sutton (Lori Todd), and Jeffrey Sutton, as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Clyde was born in Bedford County, Tennessee. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Aleutian Islands. After completing his service, he joined his brother, Thomas Sutton, in the grocery business as a butcher. They owned and operated A&S Bi-Rite store on Belmont Blvd., and also had locations in earlier years on Fatherland Street and Granny White Pike. Upon retiring in 1997, he realized that he missed the grocery business and interaction with people that came along with it. Enough so that he went back to work behind the meat counter once again. That return to work lasted until he was 94 years old, retiring (again) from Whole Foods in Green Hills in 2015. Clyde didn't know a stranger, and made so many wonderful friends throughout his life. He was loved by so many people, and he loved them back in return. He lived a full life, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, from 11:00-1:00 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN, followed by a memorial service and burial.
Memorial gifts may be made to Lincoya Hills Baptist Church, 3143 McGavock Pike, Nashville, TN 37214, or the charity of your choice.
