No one told me about the physical pain I would feel from losing my mom. The best way to describe it is like the pain she felt with me entering the world I felt the pain of her leaving it. Such is the bond between a mother and her child. 

There isn't a linear way to grieve; it comes and goes, in and out, almost like a staticky radio station. There are split seconds of clarity, but most days when I try to understand my emotions, they disappear and I'm left with the realization all over again that she's gone. My Momma passed away three years ago today, which feels surreal to say. The day it happened, I felt like I would never recover. A part of me broke solidly in two.  Grief leaves me exhausted on most days. One minute I’m grounded, feeling confident in my ability to move forward slowly, and the next I am completely doubled over in a pile of tears. 

I’ve learned that my grief will be forever. Loss never goes away, but you can grow with your grief. Treat it as a friend versus running from it or finding ways to numb it. Embrace it as best you can when possible. This small shift has helped me in a monumental way. The heartache comes and goes, but it also reminds me that we’re human, that grief is not a disease; it is a necessity. 

Don’t you think it’s ironic that the death of your mother is the most grown-up experience you’ll ever have and yet there’s no other experience that will make you feel more like a child.

I’ve come here a countless amount of times and can never find the words to say. There aren’t and won’t ever be enough words to describe how pure and beautiful of a person you were. Nothing can come close to describe the amount of love we have for you. You were the purest of all pure. The most selfless, and loving. You gave all you could to make sure we were all always cared for. Your prayers moved mountains. I am extremely blessed to have loved and been love by you for the last 24 years I’ve been alive. My world will never be the same.. but you are flying high, resting where you belong grandma and because of that I will try to be okay. You were too good for this world, for this life. You belong with the angels. I love you so much grandma.. To the holiest of all matriarchs, Rest In Peace 💜

What can be said about a person who possessed nothing, yet possessed all things. Someone who said to herself “ I don’t measure my wealth in money or put stock in materiality of this world, but I am rich because the love I have for my family and the love they have for me is great. I am rich because through God who is my salvation and my strength has shed his love abroad in my heart.” This gift of love she also shared with others and whatever she had in excess she freely gave out of the abundance of her heart to whoever needed it, In this, she did bear much fruit. My grandma, I cannot express the void that has been left in my heart by your passing, but I will cherish the memories we made together. From my earliest memory of you putting me on your counter and had my watch as you made flour tortillas or had my help you separate rocks from the beans, to the last memory of holding your hand while you began your transition from this life to the next. My Grandma, I know this is only temporary and we will see each other in heaven, but until then all we have is memories. Love Joshua Barron.

My favorite memory is going to church with grandma me and my brother and sister would jump off the bus to find grandma Pete. Is she in the kitchen?is she inside church? I also loved when I was little and she served lunch at my school and she would hook me up with a fudge bar for helping her wipe the tables off. I love you grandma Pete

You asked us not to cry but it's unbearable not to, the thought of not seeing my tía again who am I going to visit instead of my mom, now you two are together I'm missing you beautiful ladies so much my heart is broken 💔 love you so so much.

Everyday I think about you and your beautiful smile. I always remember how excited and happy you’d be when I would walk in the door. I’m relieved and happy the you are finally with the lord watching over us and smiling. Till we see each other again ama <3

So many memories of Love! Grandma Pete always opened her home to us when we visit, and made her Home feel like ours.  We had wonderful times together in Chula Vista. We will always remember her warm hugs, delicious food, and her funny sense of humor! Grandma was a comedian in her own way, and we always Loved to laugh with her! Her  gorgeous smile and sweet laugh will be cherished forever. An Angel on Earth, now in Heaven.  Miss you so much, Veronica, Kyle, Devin &Talon. 

Not many people can say something good about their Mother-in-law but she was more then that she was my Mother full of love a person you can talk to when you need a shoulder to lean on we laughed together read the Bible together and yes she would pull my ear when needed. Mom you will always live in my heart and your memories will live forever. Love you Mom.

Embracing you in my lifetime was the greatest gift God could’ve ever gave me! 

 I’ll miss how anytime you spoke about your grandchildren you took pride and bragged about how many of us there was. You were so quick to brag about all of us in our own ways. You were so proud that you got to witness majority of our births and be apart of raising us. I’ll miss your random phone calls and minute long voicemails. I’ll miss you saying “Bring me my baby” cause you always told me Zion was never truly mine he was yours. I’ll miss you calling me a Turkey then saying gobble gobble just to laugh. I’ll miss the car rides with you and taking you to the grocery store and to your appointments. I’ll miss you telling me you knew I loved you and I would always protect you no matter what. I’ll miss going to your house and making hot dogs wrapped in tortillas cause that’s how you raised us. I’ll miss taking random pictures of you cause it’s just a moment I wanted to capture. I’ll miss watching Little Women with you and yelling out “Rodrigo Rodrigo save me”. I’ll miss our Samantha days. I’ll miss being able to call you to tell you how crazy your daughter Mary can get. Then you telling me I’m just like her only for me to tell you no she’s more crazier than I am. I’ll miss being able to go to your house just because I knew you were always home reading your Bible or talking on that house phone. I swear you were always on the phone !! I’ll miss your kisses, your gentle hugs, your talks about God.

I just pray you knew how much you were loved and cherished. Your village is hurting but we will heal within time, we will forever be grateful for your beautiful soul.

My sweet grama Pete!
Growing up I always looked forward to our trips to San Diego to visit you and the Familia. I remember you always greeting me with the biggest smile as you hugged me and then hold my face in your hands and call me chula or bella or preciosa. I also remember how good you always smelled and I would breathe you in with every hug. Then when it was time to go home you would sometimes give me a baggie of crepes! They were the best! Miss you lots.

My Dear Momma Pete, 
Those special memories of you will always bring a smile. If only I could have you back for just a little while. Then we could sit and talk again just like we used to do. You always meant so very much to me always will do too. The fact that you’re no longer here will always cause me pain, but you’re forever in my heart until we meet again. 

I always remember as a youngster when my dad and mom would always visit my grandmother. One of things that I enjoyed as they would all sit at the table drinking coffee with pan dulce. And grandma would make crepas, I believe that's what they are called? I would call them thin pancakes. I loved that she always made them for us. You will be missed grandma but not forgotten.
